Who we are

Context is a network of scholars and specialists whose aim is to invite travelers off the tourist track and into the real life of the people, history, and culture of the world's greatest cities. While the majority of our guides have MA or PhD-level degrees in their fields of expertise, we live by the rule that learning isn't a finite activity. We're inquisitive about the places and people around us. We're inspired by conversations ripe with new perspectives and oft-untold stories. We don't play loose with the facts. Ours is the intellectual seeker's approach to the world: both in life and in work, we thrill at the potent possibility of "yet". At day's end—we believe that travel is the ultimate form of education, one best served with a heaping side of meaningful interaction and memorable conversation.

What we do

Our walking tours are structured to be very different from what you might experience on a typical walking tour. Groups are small (usually six people max) and the discussion is tailored to the interests and learning styles of the group. As well, Context walks are usually organized around a theme or idea rather than just the physical proximity of artworks or monuments. On one level, our walks attempt to approximate a good college seminar in the sense of creating an animated, conversational, informal but scholarly and learned atmosphere for understanding the city.

In sum: we aim to live up to our name. To give something "Context" is to connect the dots between eras, geographies, and cultures. It's to weave us all together as part of a larger, shared narrative.

Who are our clients?

Our clients come mainly from North America. However, we welcome and see an increasing
number of clients from all over the world. We attract clients of all ages. We also attract families who are interested in educational experiences, with an emphasis on their kids. Some of our clients are highly educated professionals, some are self-taught learners, others are neither. But, a large majority of our clients understand the value of learning and appreciate the importance of spending time with passionate experts even when they travel.
